Sam Hughes AKA Qntm is the author of the novel ¨there is no Antimemetics division¨. I would write a biography about him here but there is next to nothing about his personal life online. He wrote a couple short stories before this and is either 41 or 42 years old. That is the sum of all knowledge on his wikipedia page. The book itself though is very interesting. We follow Marion Wheeler the lead of the SCP foundations Anti-memetics division. While I could pad out the entire response explaining what scp is I will instead only explain what is pertinent to the subject at hand. The SCP foundation is a group dedicated to containing things that break the natural laws of the world. The Antimemetics division is a sub group of the foundation dedicated to ¨anti-memes¨ which is information/entities that contain self censoring properties. These almost all present themselves in memory loss. You forget what you know about them or what you know about yourself. The main plot revolves around stopping scp 3125. A godlike anti-meme that just kills you when you obtain any knowledge about it then subsequently erases you from the memories of everyone you know. The connections to my theme are hopefully very apparent. The entire story is about fighting something that you fundamentally cannot know. Marion Wheeler has to erase the memories of loved ones and her own memories several times throughout the story to save them and herself. She is a tragic character who has to lose so much to fight against a threat that she doesn't even fully grasp. Dealing with anti-memes also leads to her being forgotten by others involuntarily. The entire division has been forgotten by the foundation as a whole several times and its staff used to be much larger but so many of them were killed and then rendered ineffable to their minds. The foundations motto is ¨we die in the dark so you can live in the light¨ and I think ¨there is no antimemetics division¨ captures that perfectly
