Burger
Alex thorely eats a burgerThe work itself intends to invoke a feeling a derealization. Its ethereal writing style and strange series of events really just feels off. The disquieting dream like feel. Though what made me choose this specifically is the authors note which is diegetic which mentions false memories. How theyre strange and we don´t know why they happen. The false memory theme here is what ties it to my anthology.
Tomorrow
World of TomorrowThis short film, while I can’t annotate it, does touch on aspects of memories and forgetting. The crux of the plot is that a young girl named Emily gets visited by a future clone of herself. This clone has forgotten a lot of memories but she has come back for one specific one before she dies. This memory is one of emily and her mother and it is one of the only moments of true joy clone emily experiences after extracting the memory.
Forget
ForgetfulnessThis poems connection to memory is right in the title. Its about forgetting full stop. Growing older and memories leaving you, things you used to know intimately all the way to small trivia and how its possible to forget it all. The 2nd person perspective makes it feel much more personal and that it is YOU, these are your thoughts and used to be your memories.
Piranesi
PiranesiaA man falls into an extra-dimensional labyrinth and loses his memories and self. The labyrinth will give anyone there severe amnesia over the course of time. He is being used by the man who put him in the labyrinth as a researcher so he doesn’t risk his own mind in the process. The ending of the story leaves us with the question of are we more than our memories. As the man escapes this space but he is entirely different as he has lived a life separate from his old one and has no recollection of his old life
Antimemetics
There is no Antimemetics divisonThe entire book is about a group of people trying to deal with threats that are threats because they erase memories. Like an obelisk that no one knows about unless directly observed. A man that will hunt you down deleting all your memories while the person being hunted cannot be observed by anyone else.
Sorrow
Ten thousand joys and ten thousand sorrowsTen thousand joys and ten thousand sorrows (Which will be abbreviated as TTJTTS) is a memoir from Olivia Aimes Hoblitzelle is a memoir from her perspective about how her husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease at the age of 72. Her husband Harrison has a very strong characterization and his descent into memory loss is a heart wrenching experience as you read.
Dont
Dont ask me to RememberThis poem is straightforward. It has to do with someone with alzhiemers and how they need to be cared for and loved. How it might be frustrating to deal with them sometimes but they are still human and need love. Especially now as they fade away and are confused they need someone by their side to love them unconditionally. It may be the last time you speak to them.
